Architecture in Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh spans subtropical foothills and high Himalayan valleys, so its architecture changes with altitude. In the west, Monpa communities build stone and timber houses with carved windows, and Tawang Monastery, founded in the seventeenth century, sits on a ridge above the town. In the Ziro valley, Apatani villages of closely spaced bamboo houses raised on stilts sit among carefully managed rice fields, a landscape on India's tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage. Adi and Nyishi communities also build on stilts using bamboo, cane and timber, often in long, shared houses. In Itanagar, the brick walls of Ita Fort recall an older past. Students usually look to B.Arch colleges in other states and to national counselling through JoSAA and CSAB for JEE Paper 2.
