Studying for architecture in Aligarh
Aligarh students preparing for NATA or JEE Paper 2 have a local option, as Aligarh Muslim University offers a B.Arch programme, along with other colleges across Uttar Pradesh. Live online classes with drawing feedback let you prepare from home, using the arches, domes and quadrangles of the AMU campus for perspective practice.
Aligarh is closely tied to Aligarh Muslim University, whose campus holds a significant collection of Indo-Saracenic buildings in red brick. Strachey Hall, with its pointed arches and towers, Victoria Gate with its clock tower, and the university mosque with white domes form the historic core around green quadrangles. The older city sits around the Upper Kot area, where another Jama Masjid and dense bazaars mark the traditional centre. Aligarh Fort, with its moat and earthen ramparts, recalls the town's military past. Aligarh is also known for its lock industry, and its small workshops show how craft production shapes streets and buildings. The contrast between campus and old city is a useful sketching study.
