Architecture in Tripura
Tripura's architecture ranges from royal palaces to bamboo homes. In Agartala, the white Ujjayanta Palace, completed around 1901 by the Manikya rulers, shows Indo-Saracenic domes set in Mughal style gardens and now houses the Tripura State Museum. Neermahal, a palace standing in Rudrasagar Lake at Melaghar, blends Hindu and Islamic elements and was used as a royal summer retreat. Rural and tribal communities traditionally build with bamboo, raising houses on stilts for ventilation and protection from damp, and the state is known for fine bamboo and cane craft. At Unakoti, large rock reliefs carved into a forested hillside reveal a much older artistic tradition.
